The largest music competition in Illinois – the Granquist Music Competition – will hold its
48th Annual Competition on Saturday, June 23
as part of the Swedish Days Festival supported by Northwestern Medicine and hosted by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. The competition takes place at Geneva Community High School at 416 McKinley Avenue in Geneva beginning at 8:00 am. The event is not open for viewing by the public.

The Granquist Tradition established in 1970 by Herb Granquist, a dedicated music educator, promotes music performance, competition and education. It is now one of the largest music contests in the State of Illinois, and has a reputation for excellence in judging and performance.

Entry Deadline

Online entry deadline has been extended to Wednesday, May 30, 2018 by the end of the day, or until full.   All mail-in entries must be postmarked by Saturday, May 19, 2018.   Both deadlines will be strictly enforced.

Judges are selected from area musicians. All are highly qualified, with degrees in music and music performance.

Judging is based on a point scale with 100 being perfect. There is a possibility of one (1) additional point added for difficulty of music (given at the discretion of the judge). The top three scores in the Olympic and Concert levels are awarded first, second and third place trophies. Recipients of first, second and third place in the Performance Level receive a ribbon designating their achievement. There is an opportunity for contestants who exceed the performing level of their class to receive an outstanding trophy (given at the discretion of the judge).
